Abstract

The following new species are described from California fishes: Gyrodactylus armatus from Leptocottus armatus Girard, Pacific Ocean, Bodega Bay, Sonoma Co.; G. brevis from Salmo gairdneri Richardson (type host) and Hesperoleucas navarroensis Snyder, Navarro River, Mendocino Co.; G. navarroensis from Hesperoleucas navarroensis Snyder, Navarro River, Mendocino Co.; G. sculpinus from Leptocottus armatus Girard, Pacific Ocean, Bodega Bay, Sonoma Co.; and G. stellatus from Platichthys stellatus (Pallas), Pacific Ocean, Bodega Bay, Sonoma Co. Fishes were seined from California waters. Methods involving host preparation and those concerning preparation, observation, measurement, illustration, and description of new species of Gyrodactylus were employed as given by Mizelle and Kritsky (1967), except that the formalin solution was made with either fresh or marine water according to the habitat of the fish.
