Abstract

The blood pressure of part-time, night high school (for youth with occupations) boys (276) and girls (277) was measured and the result was compared with that of full-time, day high school boys (613) and girls (394), as a part of studies on hypertensive tendency in youth. The blood pressure of night high school pupils was measured in the evening from 6 to 8, and that of day high school pupils in the morning from 9 to 12. Therefore, in exact meaning it is not right to compare the blood pressure level of the pupils of these different schools. However, it seems the blood pressure level is higher in night high school pupils than in day high school pupils. The results of measurements of the physique, inclination tests and personality inventory tests of these high school pupils of the night-school group and the day-school group were compared. Some significant positive correlations were recognized between the physique and the blood pressure. However, the blood pressure level of the night high school pupils seems higher than that of day high school pupils, though the former were smaller in length and in width than the latter. There was no difference of blood pressure level between the group of pupils with and that without oCcupation, and between the group of pupils with physical work and that with sedentary work of night high school.
