Abstract
Juniper is a major tree species with a wast natural distribution area in Turkey. The present juniper forests mostly consist of overmature stands with poor structures, because they have been subject to degradation for many years. These poor stands need to be regenerated. Seed harvest is an important factor in the regeneration works. Germination of juniper seed is inhibited and may take some years. Researches have so far been carried out in order to study and overcome the inhibition and increasing the persentage of germination by various researches. But the problem is still not be solved. The present research was commenced to test all of with some other treatments of juniper seeds in order to improve the germination rate. The results have revealed that the problem is generated by the low percentage of sound seeds in a given seed lot. It has been concluded that when a sufficient proportion of sound seed is obtained, enough juniper seedlings can be produced for plantation and these seeds will be used for seeding in natural regeneration areas.
