Abstract

Sixty genotypes of sesame were studied for sixteen traits over three seasons to understand the magnitude anddirection of genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for the traits of interest. Genotypic variance andgenotypic coefficient of variation were higher for number of flowers, number of capsules, total dry matter production and harvest index. High heritability estimates coupled with high genetic advance as percentage over mean was observed for the traits number of flowers, number of capsules, volume of capsules, volume of 1000 seeds, density of seeds, seed yield, total dry matter production and harvest index.
