Abstract

Purified bean pod mottle virus (BPMV) and cowpea yellow mosaic virus (CYMV) displayed electrophoretic heterogeneity after disc electrophoresis on acrylamide gel. Electrophoretic components of BPMV fractionated by preparative Tiselius electrophoresis demonstrated similar absorption spectra, specific infectivities, and amino acid compositions. Separated top component of CYMV, which contains no RNA, as well as the two nucleoprotein components each had two electrophoretic components. Protein extracted from CYMV was resolved into several bands of disc electrophoresis, suggesting possible heterogeneity of structural protein.
