Abstract

Studies have been made on (111) faces produced due to interruption of growth of dodecahedral form of diamond. It has been shown that in some cases these faces even if examined by phase contrast illumination show complete absence of trigons. Triangular etch pits similar to trigons have been produced by etching these faces and hence it has been conjectured that (i) it is not necessary that trigons must be observed on all natural (111) faces of diamond and (ii) trigons have nothing to do with the failure of growth of a dodecahedron in reaching a point summit by deposition of (111) layers one above the other as reported by Varma 1).
