Abstract

Ross, Ian K. (Yale U., New Haven, Conn.) Studies on diploid strains of Dictyostelium discoideum. Amer. Jour. Bot. 47 (1) : 54—59. Illus. 1960.–Three strains of Dictyostelium discoideum having the diploid number of chromosomes (14) at all stages of their life cycle were examined. No evidence of sexuality as shown by syngamy or meiosis was found in the diploid strains. Two of the diploid strains were unstable and reverted to the haploid type with 7 chromosomes. These haploid strains had a sexual phase in which syngamy and meiosis were observed. The nuclear behavior of both the diploid and haploid strains differed from that reported in previous papers.
