Abstract

A systematic design procedure has been devised for integrated optic channel waveguides and directional couplers by combining the theory on Titanium indiffusion in Lithium Niobate, theory of dielectric waveguides and Coupled mode theory. Various aspects like variation of ordinary and extraordinary refractive indices with diffusion parameters, variation of V-mim-bers with Titanium thickness, variation of coupling length with physical design parameters of directional coupler for both TE and TM cases are studied for Z-cut Lithium niobate. A typical design is taken and the design value obtained is compared with that of the simulated results obtained using BPM method.
