Abstract

The heavier lanthanide nitrate complexes with DB30C10 have been prepared in acetonitrile. These new complexes with the general formula [Ln(NO 3) 2(OH 2) 2 (DB30C10)] 2·[Ln(NO 3) 5]·CH 3CN (Ln = Sm-Lu) have been characterized by means of elemental analysis, IR spectra and conductivity measurement. The crystal and molecular structure of [Lu(NO 3) 2(OH 2) 2(DB30C10)] 2·[Lu(NO 3) 5]·5CH 3NO 2 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The asymmetric unit contains three independent ions: two cations, [Lu(NO 3) 2(OH 2) 2(DB30C10)] +, with nine-coordinate lutetium ions and one anion, [Lu(NO 3) 5] 2−, with a 10-coordinate lutetium(III) ion. The coordination geometries of the cations and anion are distorted tricapped trigonal prism and distorted bicapped square antiprism, respectively.
