Abstract

An oleophobic coating is a coating that repels oils and leaves the surface fingerprint-free, impervious to dirt, dust, grease and other particulates that is easy to clean and maintain. In this study, we observed the presence of both oleophobicity and hydrophilicity when aluminum hydroxide nanoflakes (AHNFs) are mixed with commercial white cement. This unique property is highly desirable for industry and domestic walls. Contact angle measurement with oils of increasing viscosities have been performed and superoleophobicity was found for viscosities >580 cP. Separation of oil from an emulsion was also made possible using filter paper coated AHNFs mixed cement.
