Abstract
The bast fibres used in the present study were obtained from the “Tanpi” plant (Pteroceltis Tatarinowii, Maxim) grown in China.The most typical hand-made papers of China are “Sen-shi” and “To-shi” (pith-paper).“Senshi” makes use of “Tanpi” and straw, “To-shi” makes use of bamboo as materials.The “Senshi” which has elegant “sumi” absorptiveness is made in traditional manner by using “Tanpi” plant as raw material.The chemical composition of “Tanpi” plant are analysed in the usual manner. The results obtained are shown in Table I.
