Abstract
Kutch lignite has been dealkylated by treatment with various concentrations of AlCl 3 at different temperatures. Dealkylation was confirmed by comparison of infrared spectra and measurement of specific optical densities. Characteristics of the lignite and the treated samples, including H C ratios and solubilities in solvents, were determined and compared.
