Abstract

1. Carbohydrate content of tissues, and relative weights of different organs of Clarius lazera were determined each month during the course of a whole year. 2. The liver shows maximum glycogen percentage with an average of 290.2 mg/100 gm tissue. Further average glycogen content in the ovary, testes, spleen, kidney, brain, respiratory organs, and skin are respectively: 95.7, 60.5, 59.5, 53.7, 53.1, 39.8, 22.9 mg percent. 3. Glycogen content varies widely according to the type of muscle investigated; cardiac (55.0 mg), smooth (35.7 mg) and striated (24.1 mg). 4. A general decrease in blood glucose, glycogen content of tissues and relative weights of different organs studied occurs in January and February to be followed by an obvious rise till May. 5. The glycogen content of the ovary reaches its maximum in July, synchronised with a sharp decrease in the ovarian weight for the process of egg deposition. 6. Regeneration of gonads occurs in August and September after the heavy demands of the breeding season. 7. In November and December a general increase is noticed in carbohydrates and relative weights of most of the tissues for general deposition of food material before winter time.
