Abstract
Summary Evidence is presented that collagen is a major constituent of glomerular capillary basement membrane. Electron microscopic examination of bovine glomeruli digested with collagenase demonstrated that a large portion of the capillary basement membrane was removed. However, collagenase-treated glomeruli were still capable of removing by absorption the antibodies in antiglomerular serum which localized on glomerular basement membrane when the serum was injected intravenously in mice.
