Abstract

In cattle at least 10 genetic systems of blood groups are known (Stormont, 1962). The more recent discoveries of various inherited biochemical characters such as transferrins, haemoglobins, lactoglobulins, casein, etc. have provided additional markers on the cattle chromosomes. Studies on linkage between loci for some of those traits were reported. Morton et al. (1956) studied the possibility of linkage between various blood group systems and were able to exclude close linkage of the loci investigated. Datta and Stone (1963a) excluded linkage of the order of 10% crossing over between the transferrin locus and the loci controlling the A, B, C and FV blood group systems.
