Abstract

In this work we report the results of an investigation on the hydrolysis of Al3+ aged in 3.0 mol·L−1 (Na)Cl ionic medium at 25 °C, in the ranges of Al(III) concentration 0.0125 ≤ B ≤ 0.1000 mol·L−1 and average number of H+ released, or OH− bound per metal atom of 0.1 ≤ Z ≤ 1.5. The analysis of the emf(H) data, first in terms of the core + links hypothesis and, subsequently, by using the generalized least-squares program LETAGROP, indicates formation of the complexes [Al2(OH)2]4+, [Al3(OH)4]5+, [Al13(OH)30]9+, [Al13(OH)32]7+ and [Al13(OH)34]5+. The species distribution diagrams are briefly discussed.
