Abstract

Clinical and experimental studies were done with trichophytin.1. Studies were carried on the polysaccharide fraction purified from the filtrate of culture of Trichophyton gypseum.2. The activity of the fraction, purified trichophytin, was compared with that of Hoechst's trichophytin. The purified trichophytin was found to give positive reactions to all experimental animals persisting until 7th to 21st days after inoculation, but by using Hoechst's trichophytin positive reactions were demonstrated only in 10 to 50% of them.3. When the experimental animals were infected severely, the trichophytin reaction could not be become negative even after they had been treated.4. In clinical cases the positive reactions by the purified trichophytin were observed in 79% of Trichophytia pompholiciformis and T. interdigitalis, in 54% of Eczema marginatum, in 20% of T. unguinum, in 22% of non-mycotic skin diseases and in 20% of healthy people examined.5. The reactions which delayed than usual and persisted for about one week were often observed.
