Abstract

Electrochemical stripping analysis has become widely used for trace determinations of heavy metals. Anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) is the most important stripping technique in environmental analysis. However, recently Potentiometric stripping analysis (PSA) became an alternative to ASV.1 PSA is a low cost system that doesn’t need a complicated instrumentation. In PSA preconcentration of the respective element is achieved as in ASV by electrochemical deposition at a stationary electrode. Subsequently the element is redissolved in PSA by an oxidizing agent. The big advantage of PSA is that no interferences of oxygen2 and less of nitro-organic compounds3 are observed.
