Abstract

The aural temperature was recorded in 148 dogs. The mean temperature was 38.2°C. and the range 36.7°C. to 39.2°C. The effect that change in environmental temperature had on aural temperature was examined in 32 dogs. Environmental temperature changes were accompanied by small changes in aural temperature; 6.4°C. rise in environmental temperature was accompanied by a rise in aural temperature of 0.3°C. Resection of the lateral cartilagenous wall of the tragus lowered aural temperature. The mean difference between the temperature in the resected ear canal and that in the opposite control was 0.6°C.
