Abstract

Approaches to the measurement of rolling friction by the method of free oscillations of a pendulum are considered. The models of energy dissipation for the oscillation amplitudes within the contact area are analyzed. The friction characteristics are assessed for two surfaces of silicon that differ by the quality of the processing. Criteria for selecting an adequate model based on the nonlinear regression analysis of the experimental results are proposed.
