Abstract

A new route to Co 2Fe(CO) 9S, starting from Co 2(CO) 6(SC 6X 5) 2 instead of Fe 2(CO) 6S 2, is described. A difference has been found between the chemical behaviour of the Fe 2(CO) 6(SR) 2 and Co 2(CO)SR) 2 compounds, and is discussed in the light of the different fragmentation patterns in the mass spectra. A qualitative explanation based on the different electronic configurations is suggested.
