Abstract

The transient phenomenon of relaxation oscillation in copper vapor lasers is studied experimentally and theoretically. Relaxation oscillations are observed in the 510.6 nm laser line of discharge-pumped CuCl vapor lasers under appropriate conditions which are furthermore shown to agree with the theoretical considerations. Computer solutions of the coupled rate equations are obtained for an explanation of the relaxation oscillations. Comparisons with experimental observations show qualitative agreement.
