Abstract

Analyses of literature data and the results of experimental studies were used to identify the forms of radon occurrence in clays and the major factors that affect the emanation (radon release into the environment) from clay soils and rocks. The coefficient of emanation from clays was shown to be determined by the specific microstructure of materials and, under natural conditions (at normal temperature and pressure), to be practically independent of variations in the ambient conditions.
