Abstract

With a heavy ion synchrotron and a storage ring currently under construction at GSI in Darmstadt it will be possible to look for the still undiscovered mode of β − decay to bound electron states. This mode has played a key role in nuclear synthesis at high temperatures. Possible detection techniques and the decay of 163Dy as a test case as well as the decays of 187Re and 205Tl, which are of astrophysical interest, are discussed.
