Abstract
During HDS and HDM of Venezuelan crude oils, two types of coke were deposited on the catalyst: one which plugged the bed, and the other which poisoned the catalyst. Vanadium was deposited on the external part of the particle and blocked the pores. The regeneration process restored part of the catalytic activity poisoned by coke, but did not restore any of the activity lost by vanadium deposition. An accelerated poisoning test was also developed.
