Abstract

SYNOPSIS Mensurational data collected for management inventories were used to obtain estimates for the parameters of equations with age, and in other cases with age, stand density and site index as predictor-variables, growth and stand structure characteristics as dependent variables. The parameter estimates are valid for the plantations of Twello Forestry in the Eastern Transvaal, but may be applicable to the entire region. The mensurational data for top height were pooled to revise the existing set of site index curves. Various characteristics of the DBH-distribution such as standard deviation, coefficient of variation, skewness and kurtosis were regressed on mean DBH and least-squares estimates for the parameters of the resultant equations were obtained. Mean diameter was regressed on number of trees per hectare, site index and age. In an additional study the influence of degree of thinning on the difference of the mean diameter of the stand before and that of the remaining stand, immediately after thi...
