Abstract
A comparative study of the influence of tartrate, oxalate and citrate ions on the titanium-gallic acid system, when titania is in excess, shows that the oxalate and citrate ions interfere seriously in the formation of the coloured complex. In the case of tartrate, maximum colour development is attained when the amount of ammonium tartrate is 20 to 28 times (w/w) to that of titania. Based on this, a spectrophotometric method has been described for the estimation of gallic acid over a wide concentration range.
