Abstract

Electronic stopping powers have been determined by measuring the energy loss of He, O and Al particles using a time of flight (ToF) elastic recoil detection analysis set-up. In transmission geometry, the energy loss of particles in self-supporting foils of C and SiC is measured over a continuous energy range using the ToF spectrometer. By calibrating the Si detector for each channel over the measured energy region based on ToF spectrometry, the current approach eliminates much of the error associated with pulse height defects in Si detectors, and measurement uncertainties of less than 4% are achieved.
