Abstract

The thin polybithiophene films electrochemically deposited on electrodes from boron fluoride-ethyl ether (BFEE) solution are studied by cyclic voltammogram, in situ UV–Vis spectra and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique. It is found that the thiophene rings along the polymer chains lie flat but twisted on electrode surface, with interaction of π-electrons with electrodes. These films, with bipolarons as the main charge carriers when doped, exhibit a good electrochemical stability during the oxido-reduction cycles.
