Abstract

The genetic and biological nature of a deficiency in axonal regeneration in C57BL/6J mice was investigated. From analysis of recombinant inbred strains, the genetic basis for the deficient regeneration behaviours of C57BL/6J and A/J mice is deduced to involve multiple loci. The defect in axonal regeneration in C57BL/6J mice appears to be a delay rather than permanant impairment and appears to involve sensory more than motor axons.
