Abstract
A review is given of developments in six fields of sedimentological studies during the last century: heavy mineral studies, mechanical analysis, cross-bedding studies and investigation of the formation of chert, of fuller's earth and of the processes of cementation and decalcification. Theories of the provenance of the Lower Greensand sediments are discussed. In conclusion the palaeogeography of Lower Greensand times, as suggested by sedimentological studies, is discussed and illustrated by means of a palaeogeographic map.
