Abstract

A probable mechanism for the polymorphic transformation of orthorhombic to tetragonal PbO is proposed from the comparison of the crystal structures of the two modifications. The transformation process has been followed by X-ray diffraction procedures at room temperature and the structural relationship (001) t ∥(001) o [110] t ∥[110] o has been established.
