Abstract

The nature of impurities associated with china clays and the principles involved in the selection of a suitable process for commercial beneficiation of clays to eliminate such impurities are discussed. Fundamental considerations in processing and the sequence of operations have been examined in detail. A review of the clay purification methods which are in use at present in England, Germany, America and India has been given. In connection with clay processing in India, some of the defects observed in the course of studies on Indian clays at the Institute and the steps contemplated to remedy them and to improve the quality of domestic china clays have been described.
