Abstract
The thermodynamic solubility product of silver chloride at 25° has been obtained, by e.m.f. measurements, in 10 and 43·12%(w/w) methanol–water mixtures, and its free energies of transfer from water to these mixtures calculated. If computations of the free energies of transfer of single ions, made earlier in the Series, are correct, the silver ion is stablised in the mixtures, relative to water, to a greater extent than a d° cation of comparable size. This is shown to be the result expected from its chemistry.
