Abstract

Summary The degree of sensitivity of asthmatics is best determined by skin-testing with dilutions of extracts of increasing strength, and apparently not by the reagin content of the blood; this point requires further study. Asthma patients sensitive to rabbit hair, horse dander, or cottonseed, can be classified, by the intradermal or scratch method, into three arbitrary groups, A, B, and C, depending upon the degree of skin sensitivity. The number of constitutional reactions, resulting from intradermal diagnostic tests or specific treatment, will be appreciably reduced if the degree of sensitivity is predetermined.
