Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a rice-producing food crop commodity that plays an important role in Indonesia's economic life. One of the superior varieties cultivated by farmers in Southeast Sulawesi is the Mekongga variety. Xanthomonas oryzae pv oryzae (Xoo) causes bacterial leaf blight (BLB) in lowland rice which is the main disease of lowland rice in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the symptoms of bacterial leaf blight, the characteristics of the Xoo bacteria, and the intensity of bacterial leaf blight attack on rice plants. The observed variables in the study were symptoms, characteristics, intensity of attack by bacterial leaf blight. Research data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. Symptoms of bacterial leaf blight in the field were found to show symptoms that appeared in the form of gray spots on the tips of the leaf edges. The characteristics of the isolates growing on the media had round, mucoid and yellow bacterial colonies. The severity of HDB disease in lowland rice of the Mekongga variety in Konda Konawe Selatan District reached 28.72% with an infection rate of 0.0050 units/day.
