Abstract

This research generally aims to identify and examine religious moderation for the Jeneponto people and the Jeneponto people's understanding of democracy. This research is library research, with a network of document data from scientific journals and books. Interviews and observations The results of the study show that there are at least three things that the researchers found: First, in terms of religious moderation, the people of Jeneponto enjoy and are open to accepting religious moderation, namely mutual respect, fostering mutual tolerance, and maintaining the dignity of every member of society. Secondly, in Jeneponto's democracy, the people of Jeneponto have always implemented a system of government by means of democracy; the indicator is that during the Binamu Kingdom era, in choosing a king, it was chosen through elections through "Toddo Appa," or known as the customary council; and thirdly, in terms of relations between Muslims and non-Muslims, Muslims in the Jeneponto community are very open to accepting anyone in terms of working or doing business in the Jeneponto district, regardless of their religious background, as long as it does not violate the order of community life, for example, by building a house of worship, because there is a law that regulates the conditions for building a house of worship
