Abstract

The purpose of this study was to conduct a critical analysis of the free attitude of children based on the information provided by the hadith. This study uses a qualitative approach by applying the methodology of syarah and ma'anil hadith through descriptive analysis of family sociology with a comprehensive critical study. The results of the research and discussion show that there is an understanding of the hadith that criticizes the childfree view with an understanding of the hadith that recommends marrying a woman who produces many offspring. Even though at the time of the Prophet it was reported that there were companions who had the desire not to have children and did 'azl in practice, but that did not make 'azl more important to do, because 'azl is not useful because pregnancy may still occur. The conclusion of this study is that based on a sociological study of the family, the child-free phenomenon shows a shift in values related to children in society. This finding was obtained after the researchers conducted an analysis of the family, the loss of family function, the existence of gender equality, and was considered contrary to the construction of Indonesian society regarding the concept of the ideal family. This study recommends married couples not to choose childfree and consider having children in life after marriage because the Prophet will be proud of his many followers.
