Abstract

Serak Jawa (Tyto alba) has a very important role in the natural pest control of rice ecosystems. Serak Jawa (Tyto alba) is used by farmers as biological agents to control rice mice as practiced by farmers of Tlogoweru Village, Guntur District, Demak Regency. This study aims to determine the behavior of Tyto alba in its daily activities using methods scanning-sampling. The number of Serak Jawa observed in captivity was three. Observed factors such as locomotion, flying, perching, eating, drinking, and making noise. Observations were carried out for 12 hours starting at 18:00 WIB until 06:00 WIB for 10 days in captivity Tyto alba at Tlogoweru Village, Guntur, Demak. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results showed that the most frequent daily activities carried out by Tyto alba are perching (393.67 minutes), flying (178.93 minutes), locomotion (62.7 minutes), eating (63.7 minutes), drinking (13.2 minutes), and making noise (6.77 minute).
