Abstract

The gears are used to transmit power and rotation in various engineering applications. Worm gear is a type of gear that is popularly used to reduce rotation. This study was carried out experimentally to observe the effect of load on rotation on the pair of worm and spur gears made of composite material. A series of loads are applied to the gear pair without lubrication to observe wear on the worm gear. The results show that the greatest wear on the worm gear is located in the middle, namely the threads 4 and 5 of 11.54% and 12.31% respectively with the wear located on the face with a slight bit of flank leading to the pitch diameter.

METODE PENELITIAN

Roda gigi cacing yang digunakan dalam studi ini berukuran modul m = 2, panjang keseluruhan 116 mm, diameter luar 28 mm dan jumlah gigi 7. Material POM diuji tekan dengan menggunakan mesin uji universal yang hasilnya dapat dilihat pada Gambar 1 dan hasil analisanya diberikan dalam Tabel 1. Roda gigi cacing ini dipasangkan dengan roda gigi lurus dengan modul yang sama. Gambar CAD dan roda gigi yang dimanufaktur diperlihatkan dalam Gambar 2. Seperti dalam Gambar 3, roda gigi cacing diposisikan sebagai roda gigi pinion yang terhubung dengan motor listrik berkapasitas 0,75 kW dan maksimum putaran 1390 rpm. Ada 4 frekuensi inverter yang digunakan pada setiap pengujian yaitu P1 = 35 Hz; P2 = 40Hz; P3 = 45Hz dan P4 = 50Hz. Untuk mengukur tingkat keausan pada studi ini dihitung secara sederhana dengan menggunakan Persamaan 1.
