Abstract

This study aims to find out how differently students perceive project-based learning (PjBL) classes depending on their demographic backgrounds like gender, field of study, and familiarity with English. The acronym of PBL is used for problem-based or project-based learning in Korea, but the distinction of the two is made in this article. Therefore, the concern of this article is a project not a problem. The previous PjBL research can be mostly found in the realms of writing, tourism, web-based and mobile-assisted communication, culture, and curriculum development, but little in English learning classes. A questionnaire survey was given to 85 undergraduates after they had completed a PjBL class taught by the researcher and a ‘role-playing project at the end of the semester. The results showed that students perceived PjBL class differently depending on their field of study or familiarity degree of English, not on gender difference.
