Abstract

AbstractThe current study assessed the extent to which teachers who participated in a pilot staff development project in sex education could bring about change in attitude and knowledge in eighth and tenth grade students. The data indicate that significant student changes were found from the pre- and post-assessment on two standardized measures of knowledge and on attitudinal measures. These changes varied by grade. The results of the student portion of this pilot program support the timing of presenting materials in the eighth grade and suggest optional opportunities for the presentation of human sexuality curriculum and criteria to consider when scheduling classes.
