Abstract

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) results from atherosclerosis which decreases blood flow to the lower extremity arteries. PAD affects 8-10 million Americans; 12-20% of those 65 years of age; approximately 50% are asymptomatic. The purpose of this poster is to describe the risk of PAD in approximately 50 individuals at a local university supported community clinic. This study may support the need to: 1) offer ABI screenings at the clinic on a monthly basis, 2) develop a PAD course for nursing and medical students who staff the clinic, and 3) provide continuing education on PAD to clinicians.
