Abstract
The concept of student engagement was predicated on the idea that learning improves when students are inquisitive, engrossed, or enthused. Likewise learning declines when students are detached and jaded. Furthermore, the students' occupation interest is a factor that motivates them to study. This study sought to investigate whether there is a significant difference and significant relationship between the students' engagement and their occupational interest. The study made use of the College Student Engagement Scale, an instrument intended to assess the students' engagement level and the HAU Occupational Interest Inventory to identify the students' interest. The respondents for this study were 1,302 second year College students of Holy Angel University. Mean, Frequency, Percentage and One Way MANOVA were the statistical tools used for data analysis. The findings of the study were the following: In terms of interest, 536 students fell under Social, 318 for Conventional, 163 for Enterprising, 109 for Artistic, 90 for Realistic, and 86 for Investigative. The mean scores for ALE were only statistically different between Realistic and Conventional (p<.003). The mean scores for MAE were statistically different between Realistic and Conventional (-2.95; p<.003), Investigative and Social (-3.46; p<.003) Investigative and Enterprising (-3.81; p<0. 003), Investigative and Conventional (-4.73, p<.003) and Social and Investigative (3.46; p<.003). There was also a significant relationship between the level of engagement of students who chose different occupational interest.
