Abstract
This paper reports on research into the teaching of computer systems project management using a student centred approach. The literature contains many references to an unrest in the traditional paradigm of the university lecture where, it is supposed that, knowledge is passed from the learned lecturer to the eager student. An investigation into the theoretical epistemology showed short-falls in the traditional lecture paradigm. The student centred learning strategy differs significantly from traditional didactic teaching by placing the emphasis on the learner not the teacher. This research investigated whether a student-centred learning approach helped in the teaching of computer project management. The research method used was a case study approach and a student centred model was derived and applied to students studying project management techniques for development of computer-based systems. The results are reported, the SCL method is evaluated and conclusions drawn. (6 pages)
