Abstract

The widespread use of relational Database Management Systems (DBMS) has meant an increase in the number of application databases. Having to cope with such a large amount of data especially when used in decision making systems leads to a number of problems. The introduction of Expert Systems (ES) has enabled us to apply the domain knowledge of experts to stored data, perhaps already existing in a Database (DB). The integration of ES and DB can be seen as an attempt to combine the best facilities of both technologies. The Student Admission: Database & Expert system is an example of just one application where such problems arise. This paper looks at various integration approaches as well as the method used in this system.
