Abstract

Student experience at the Dick Vet included enormous variety and richness over the last two centuries. Outdoor games and indoor theatre dominated the first 100 years. Student ‘dress code’ changed over the years. Student magazines detailed insight into student life. Team sports and social events as well as non-sporting events contributed to the diversity of college life. Membership of the Officer Training Corps (1912-1939) was very important. Music-making was a long Dick Vet student practise, and the Final Year review was another tradition. Onesie day at Easter Bush is the expression of a new tradition. Each contributed to the Dick Vet’s independent ethos. In total, about 9,410 students obtained undergraduate qualifications from veterinary colleges in Edinburgh.
