Abstract

A novel filtering dielectric resonator antenna (FDRA) based on a new coupling structure of stub-loaded slotline is proposed. The antenna is composed of a rectangular dielectric resonator (RDR), a metallic ground plane and a microstrip feedline. A stub-loaded slotline is etched on the ground plane to excite the RDR. Two radiation nulls at both band edges are introduced by the stubs. The location of the radiation nulls are easily controlled by adjusting the lengths of stubs. A prototype is designed and simulated. The FDRA has a wide impedance bandwidth of 5.71% (3.4-3.6GHz) around 3.5GHz. The achieved gain in the passband is about 5dBi. The proposed antenna with compact structure, filtering character and easy fabrication can be a good candidate for 5G communication system.
