Abstract

We study classical bremsstrahlung from neutral atoms andinvestigate the origins of the structures in the energydependence of the differential cross section ω dσ/dω and the asymmetry parameter a2, usingsoft-photon limit results in terms of elastic scattering. Weshow that trapping features in elastic scattering do notcontribute to the structures. Rather, these structures resultfrom the suppression of contributions to the radiation fromcertain angular momenta at certain energies. This corresponds tothe association of structures in quantum bremsstrahlung withzeros in certain angular momentum matrix elements at certainenergies.
