Abstract

Four new anion radical salts D[Pd(dmise) 2] 2 (D=(CH 3) 4N, (CH 3) 4P, (CH 3) 4As, (CH 3) 4Sb) have been prepared. All of them are isostructural with the superconducting all-sulfur analog β-(CH 3) 4N[Pd(dmit) 2] 2. In the unit cell, strongly dimerized Pd(dmise) 2 molecules stack to form 1-dimensional columns along the a+b and a−b directions. Electrical resistivity of each salt shows very small temperature dependence down to ca. 150 K ( ϱ R.T. = ca. 10 −2 Ω cm ), below which a rapid increase in the resistivity is observed. In the (CH 3) 4P salt, an application of pressure leads to an appearance of a metallic region. A superconducting transition, however, is not observed up to 12.0 kbar. The electronic structure of these salts is examined by means of a tight-binding band calculation.
